In John 17: 1–5, we get a glimpse into one of the most powerful moments in all of Scripture.
Jesus is less than 24 hours away from the cross.
He knows what’s coming—the betrayal, the suffering, the weight of sin, the separation.
And what is on His mind?
It’s not fear.
It’s not escape.
It’s not even Himself.
It’s us.
In this prayer, Jesus lifts His eyes to heaven and begins to talk to the Father—not just about what He’s about to endure, but about the people He came to save. He speaks about giving eternal life. He speaks about glory. He speaks about relationship.
Right in the shadow of the cross, Jesus is preoccupied with you and me—our lives, our future, our connection to God.
That changes how we see everything.
You are not an afterthought.
You are not a side mission.
You were on His heart before the cross… and you’re still on His heart today.
Eternal life, as Jesus defines it, isn’t just about someday—it’s about knowing God now. Walking with Him. Living in relationship with Him. Experiencing His presence in your everyday life.
So today, whatever you’re carrying, remember this:
At the moment when Jesus could have been consumed with His own suffering… He was thinking about you.
And that kind of love doesn’t just save you—
it invites you to live differently.
